The Team was pleased to host its first three-division regatta on the weekend of April 9th and 10th. The A and B Divisions were sailed by the women and Coeds respectively by rotating through the fleet of 420s, and the Singlehand Division was sailed in Techs. Fifteen teams from around the Midwest came to Madison to compete on Lake Mendota only three days after the winter ice had thawed off the lake.
Competitors could not have asked for better weather conditions, enjoying sunshine and temperatures in the 70s with winds at 8-15 knots all weekend. The race committee was instrumental in completing 10 races for each division, totaling 30 races over the course of two days. The trapezoid courses sailed allowed one of the 420 Divisions and the Techs to be racing concurrently and added some excitement to the races.
By the conclusion of the regatta, the two teams competing for Wisconsin had captured many of the top low point positions as well as the top two team positions. Sophomores Liz Prange and Kelsey Cramer from the Wisconsin 2 team won the Women’s Division by eight points, while Freshmen Rob Pickens, Ben Dickey, and Sophomore Tristan Sather won the Coed Division by 3 points. The Wisconsin 1- Freshmen team won first place overall, with other team members Patti Schmidt, Amy Schultz, and Scott Eisenhardt. The Wisconsin 2 team finished 9 points behind in second place with other team members Anna Bargren, Anne Porter, Brianne Zechlinski, Mike Stephenson, and Tom McGrath. Awards, donated by Harken, were given to the top three teams, and as well awards from Quantum going to the low point winners in each of the three divisions.
