regatta report - Stu Nelson Women's 2005

October 22-23, 2005
After an incredibly long and uneventful drive out to New London, Connecticut, to Conn College the ladies were ready to get out on the water. Liz Prange and Kelsey Cramer started out in the A division in a cold, rainy set in light-medium breeze with the wind coming straight down the river. Sleet conditions slightly subsided when Patti Schmidt and Michele Lorenz took over in the B division. Rain continued on and off all day, and the Wisco ladies not sailing each set watched racing with “regatta dad” Kevin Campbell from the van on the riverbank. The wind slightly increased from Saturday morning to hiking conditions in the afternoon allowing A’s to sail 10 races and B’s 8. Then on Sunday the wind was light again and off the riverbank so the ladies had to work with the current. A division completed 5 more races and B’s got in 7 more so that each fleet finished 15 races total throughout the weekend. Competition in both fleets was tough and it took some time to get used to the current, but eventually they figured it out. Liz and Kelsey had a few top 10 races and Patti and Michele averaged 8 points per race and came in 9th in their division. Overall the girls took 14th out of 16 teams and promptly hit the road for a long chaotic drive/bus ride home.
