General Information
Hoofers has five collegiate teams. Each team’s program develops your skills to compete at the highest level. Four Olympians are former Hoofers, and recently the UW Equestrian Team placed 8th in the nation and a member of the Sailing Team has been named Sailor of the Month by US Sailing Magazine.
Hoofers Proudly Boasts Five Collegiate Teams:
Alpine
The Hoofers Alpine Ski Team is a group of UW students who compete in the United States Collegiate Ski Association. Members come from all sorts of racing backgrounds. Some are seasoned veterans and some have never raced before joining the team.
Equestrian
The Equestrian Team is typically comprised of 25-30 riders of all levels, and offers horse showing opportunities from beginner walk/trot riders to open fences riders. All team members ride in a group lesson once per week taught by the coach, and are required to attend at least one of two weekend practices each week run by the team captains. The team lessons and practices at the Hoofer Equestrian Center in Belleville, Wisconsin, and transportation to and from the barn is organized by carpooling.
Freestyle
Freestyle is snowboarding or skiing typically in the terrain park. The Freestyle Team works particularly in the superpipe, regular pipe, on kickers, rails, boxes, and other fun terrain stuff the hills may have to offer. The main idea is that as a member of the Freestyle team, you will ski or ride with a great bunch of people who are as excited about skiing or riding as you are.
Nordic
The Wisconsin Nordic Ski Team is a competitive co-ed racing team that competes in a variety of races around the Midwest. Practice begins in the fall and includes running, roller skiing, hill bounding and ultimate frisbee several times a week.
Sailing
The sailing team is comprised of UW undergraduate students. The team participates in races against other schools in the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA) and schools across the country that are part of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ISA). The sailing team mainly races dinghies, but also competes in single-handed events with the Lasers and Techs. Any UW undergraduate is welcome to join the team, regardless of previous sailing experience or ability.
