What we do.

We climb. Mostly that means day trips to Devil's Lake, about an hour north of Madison, for top-roping and/or lead climbing. We get up to the Lake most weekends, weather permitting, throughout the climbing season. We also occasionally take longer trips to larger rocks -- destinations in the last year or so have included:

Many members use the climbing gym on a regular basis. Membership entitles you to reduced rates at Boulders Climbing Gym.

In the winter we go ice climbing throughout southern Wisconsin, with occasional trips to the Lake Superior ice belt.

Meetings.

We meet in the Hoofer lounge in Memorial Union every Thursday evening at 7:30. Typically, the day and time for a weekend excursion are chosen at the meeting, then posted to our email list.

Equipment.

The club owns ropes, harnesses, belay devices, and gear for anchors. We also have crampons and several nice ice axes. We don't have climbing shoes (they can be rented from local stores), but otherwise we've got all you need.

Instruction.

Beginners are welcome! We run Beginners Classes a couple of times a year, especially in the fall when we have many new members. Otherwise the best way to learn new skills -- from tying in and belaying to setting top-rope and rappel anchors to lead climbing -- is to simply climb with experienced climbers, ask for instruction, and practice under their supervision. Come on out!
