Donations to Wisconsin Hoofers

Wisconsin Hoofers welcomes and appreciates the donation of equipment, materials, and funds it can use. These donations can include anything useful and frequently include equipment used by many of the different clubs such as, sailboats, motorboats, kayaks, riding tack, horses, and general items that can be used by all clubs collectively, such as computer equipment, maintenance/shop equipment, books, office equipment, and more.

Benefits of Donation include

Possible tax benefits as allowed by law, for donating to a 501(c)(3) organization. (Please consult your tax advisor for details.)
Allowing valuable equipment that is not frequently used to benefit Hoofers.

Donation Steps

If you wish to donate to Hoofers, here is a guideline to the process.

You should:

Consult with your accountant to discuss specific donation benefits to you.
Contact Hoofers to see if the equipment is desired by a Hoofers club.
Get an appraisor to determine donation value of equipment (if you plan to claim tax benefits).
Complete and send Hoofers a donation letter (example).

Hoofers will then:

Vote to officially accept equipment.
Outdoor Programs Office will send you an official letter of acceptance.

Donations through Wills

It is possible to have gifts given through the University of Wisconsin Foundation through one's will. Wording that can be used would be similar to:

I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the University of Wisconsin-Foundation, a nonprofit, non-stock Wisconsin corporation with its principal offices in Madison, Wisconsin, the sum of ____________ dollars ($ ) to be used for the Wisconsin Union Hoofers ________________ (club or program) program for the purpose of . . . . at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

It is understood and agreed that should the purpose for which this bequest is instituted cease to exist, then the Foundation may devote said bequest for other Wisconsin Hoofers clubs and programs, as it determines to be in accordance with my original intent in making this gift.
