Hoofers' 75th Anniversary!
2006 will mark Hoofers' 75th Anniversary, and we at Hoofers hope to make this an extraordinary event!
The Wisconsin Hoofers was first established in 1931 by the Director of the Wisconsin Union, Porter Butts,
with Professor Harold C. Bradley, and a few interested students. Hoofers began as a way to coordinate outdoor
activities such as skiing, camping, and canoeing, to name a few. The vision of Hoofers was to offer outdoor
educational experiences to students, staff, and faculty at Madison, and quickly grew to encompass local, as
well as international participants. Membership expanded from just a few interested individuals to over 2400
members involved in the Moutaineering, Outing, Riding, Sailing, Ski & Snowboard, and SCUBA clubs. Because
so many individuals who join Hoofers encounter life-changing leadership opportunities, build friendships that
last a lifetime, and develop as individuals due to the opportunities Hoofers has to offer, Hoofers has a very
special and significant role on campus at UW-Madison.
75th Anniversary Reunion is scheduled for Friday, August 4th through Sunday August 6th in 2006. The 75th
Anniversary Committee is already well under way planning events for this weekend, including, but not
limited to: a climbing wall set up by the Mountaineering Club, sailing opportunities with the Sailing Club,
a brat fry Friday evening, an art exhibit, a banquet Saturday evening, and a Sunday brunch to say goodbye.
We hope to have as many of our Hoofer alumni back as possible for this event; it is sure to be a weekend to remember!
For questions or to find out how to get involved, email our 75th Anniversary Chair, Sara Shreve.
