1930s

 

Marilla Eggler (Fuge) '32 (An original member of 1st Hoofer Committee in 1931) -Marilla attended the 75th Hoofers Anniversary and took time to see the Bradley Lounge as she reminisced about her past with Hoofers.  She was very grateful for her trip to the Hoofer 75th Anniversary. 

 

Vernon C. Brink (Bert) '39 (Hoofers 1937-'39) -Finished PhD, with an interruption for the war, between 1939-1945.  Vernon mentioned great memories of ski trips, boating, rock climbing, Devil's Lake, Colorado, and more.  He continued with outdoor activities in Canada with the Alpine Club and other similar organizations

 

1940s

 

Hans Hopf- '49, (Hoofers 1939-'49, Hoofers Council President and Vice President) - Hans recently enjoyed a week of skiing in Aspen.  Hoofers framed and displayed the flannel shirt Hans gave to Porter Butts in 1949 to encourage Hoofer Winter Carnival participants to wear flannel on Friday February 16th, 2007. 

 

1970s

 

Harendra Choksi '72 (Hoofers 1971-'72)-Harendra studied in Madison from India in the early 70's.  She climbed Devils Lake with Jay Steward and Mary Adney as well as learning to sail on Lake Mendota.  Because of her experiences with Hoofers, she continues to rock climb all over India today to places such as Garhwal region and the Himalayas.  All visitors welcome!

 

1980s

 

Paul Exner (Hoofers 1986-'05, Hoofers Sailing Instructor, UW Sailing Team member) -Won the 2006 FARR 40 Great Lakes Championship and Paul was recognized as a major contributor to boat speed as the mainsail trimmer. This was his third year trimming Main on ISKRA.  Paul recently returned from Acapulco where he was promoted to captain of "the Ole" with 20+ members under his direction. Puerto Rico is next.

 

Eric Raffini (Hoofers 1980-1998, Sailing Instructor, UW Sailing Team) -Skiing the Birkie was a disappointment but Eric was able to find some snow and use the Nordic skis. Life in San Francisco is great where Eric works as an environmental scientist for the EPA.

 

Dani Rayner (Hoofers Sailing 1994-98, Publicity Coordinator) -Was recently engaged to Dylan Hollingsworth. Dani is in Breckenridge, Colorado practicing family medicine.

 

1990s

 

John Banczak '92 (Hoofers 1990-92, Hoofer Council President, Ski and Snowboard President, Sailing Instructor) -John and wife Heather had a baby girl in 2006. John works for BedandBreakfast.com, officially living in Austin, Texas but continues to spend windsurfing time in San Francisco.

 

Paula Bersie '99 (Hoofers 1993-99, Hoofer Sailing VP, Board Member, Council President, Vice President)- Paula is now in Beijing, China working for Beijing Olympic Broadcasting, which is responsible for producing and distributing all TV and radio signals for the Olympic Games. Her news updates notes that more than 350,000 volunteers applied for Beijing 2008 while 70,000 are needed.

 

Brian Bartel and Kim Winburn Bartel  '95 (Hoofers 1992-'95, Sailing instructor, Brian-Sailing Commodore)-  On January 17th, 2007, Brian and Kim welcomed baby Finley Cabot into the world four weeks earlier than expected. Brian also recently finished his MBA. 

 

Stephen Ceolla '95 (Hoofers 1995) -Stephen has recently been accepted to an optometry school in California and will begin in the fall.  However if he is accepted to he pharmacy school back in UW Madison, he plans to attend school here instead, as pharmacy has always been his true passion. 

 

Kris Dressler '98 (Hoofers 1997-98, Hoofer sailing instructor and Board of Captains) -Took a past visit to Shanghai, China to visit his TurboTap factory.  "The city is beautiful, but minimal sailing!"

 

Nick Voegeli '92 (Hoofers 1991-'92, Hoofer Sailing Instructor) -Nick ran for Wisconsin Representative for District 46 in September of 2006.  Although he did not win, he did garner over 41% of the vote.  Married with five children, Nick has been active within the community while continuing his profession as a CPS and US Navy Intelligence Officer.

 

2000s

 

Abhishek Agarwal '06, (Hoofers 2004-06, Hoofer SCUBA President and Treasurer) -Abishek and three other UW-Madison researchers recently invented a miniscule lens that can adjust its focus without human control. As a doctoral student, Abishek helped develop the lens that can be used to sense any biological or chemical agent in a fluid sample and swell or contract based on agents.

 

Liz Leslie Clechenko (Hoofers 2002-04, Hoofer Sailing instructor)-Liz and Cory welcomed new baby Lilliam Neagle to the world on 7/9/2006.  Mother, father, and baby are doing just fine!

 

Wes Culberson (Hoofers 2002-04, Sailing Instructor)-Wes is working in Milwaukee at St. Luke's Medical Center. After taking some winter courses at Milwaukee Community Sailing Center he has an itch to buy a small boat if the price is right.

 

Vickie Eiden (Hoofer Sailing), with Brian Bartel (Hoofers 1990-99, Sailing Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Sailing Instructor)-wrote the article The North Channel with a day job (Northern Breezes, March 2007)  about their summer 2006 trip with many Hoofers including John Dreger, Wes Culberson, Andy Evenson, "Torpedo Jo" Reis, Dale Carder, Mary Giblin and Tim Nolan.

 

Christina Grunwald (Hoofers Mountaineering)-has picked up a summer job in the Northwest for the summer with Outward Bound guiding mountaineering and rock climbing based trips.

 

Jeff Haupt '95 (Hoofers Ski and Snowboard, Union President), Kevin Houlihan (Hoofers 1998-Present, Alpine Team Director, Resale Assistant, Alpine Team Coach), Kris Dressler (Hoofers 1997-2004, Sailing Vice-Commodore, Instructor), Brian West (Hoofer Sailing current Commodore), and Jim Rogers got together at Dotty Dumplings to discuss engineering designs for Brian's Tech pier and Solid Works software at an event sponsored by The Onion (thanks, Jeff).

 

Ade Hill, '05 (Hoofers 2004, Hoofer SCUBA President) -Ade got married to Annamarie in Las Vegas, NV in October of 2006. 

 

Johannes Paul Loschnigg- '92 (Hoofers 1989-'92, Hoofers Sailing Commodore and Instructor)-Recently finished his position as Staff Director of the Congressional Space Subcommittee. He also attended the Space Shuttle Launch last summer as a VIP. Traveling about the world keeps him occupied this year.

 

Jim Rogers (current Outdoor Programs Coordinator/Hoofer Advisor)-I enjoyed a wonderful month of back-packing in South America (Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil) in January. Volcano biking in Puerto Varas and hot beaches of Rio were highlights.

 

Pete Schmidt '04 (Hoofers 2004, Hoofers Sailing Instructor) -Pete has been living in Colorado since May of 2003.  He spends his winters as aSki Patroller at Keystone and the summers working at a summer camp at a reservoir in Boulder, CO.  Mike recently applied to work for a Kayak tour company as well. 

 

Mick Schoenike '05 (Hoofers 1999- '05, Hoofer Council President, VP, Outing President)-Spent last summer working in Red Lodge, Montana for Outward Bound Wilderness as a Logistics Coordinator.  He then worked doing facilities tasks for some of the Outward Bound bases in Colorado before heading back to Red Lodge Mountain to work as lift supervisor this winter season.

 

Jess Wallace (Hoofers 2004-05, Sailing Instructor)-Wes Culberson reports Jess is a science educator at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago enjoying the job a lot.

 

Elliot Weber '06 (Hoofer Ski and Snowboard President, Hoofer Council President)-After an extensive series of parties Elliot has headed off for his two year adventure with the Peace Corps in Urganda. Read more at http://elliotpc.blogspot.com/

In Memory

 

Pete Antaramian '00 (Hoofers 1998-200, Hoofer Council President, Ski Instructor, UW Alpine Team, Wisconsin Union President)-Pete lost his battle against cancer on September 12th, 2006, with support in his life by his wife Kristin and Pete's family.  He had been on the road to recovery which was celebrated in early June at the Trek 100 bike ride for MACC.  However later in June of 2006, the cancer reappeared and after attending a final football game in September and visiting Hoofers, Pete passed on.  He was a former Ski Team member and Wisconsin Union President. 

 

Paul Myerson '49 (Hoofers 1940-1949, Hoofer Council President)- Paul passed away on 2/22/05.  He was the Hoofer president in 1942, and graduated in 1949. 

 

William Remmington- '92, '95 (Hoofers 1991-'95, Hoofer Sailing Board Member) -Bill was a sailor in the early 90s responsible for many activities here on campus. Bill died in December of 2006 while vacationing in the U.S. Virgin Islands off the beaches of St. Croix, apparently by drowning.
